Project Objectives
Our Goals for a Sustainable Future
The Lalibela Olive Tree Project is driven by a clear vision to promote sustainable agriculture, improve rural livelihoods, and contribute to Ethiopia’s economic and environmental development. Our objectives focus on expanding olive cultivation, producing high-quality olive oil, supporting local communities, and creating long-term opportunities for future generations.
Expand Olive Cultivation
One of our primary objectives is to increase the number of olive trees grown in the Lalibela region by expanding our nursery and establishing new olive plantations. By producing healthy, high-quality olive seedlings, we aim to create a strong foundation for sustainable olive farming across Ethiopia.
Establish a Modern Olive Oil Production Facility
We plan to build and equip a modern olive oil processing facility capable of producing premium-quality olive oil that meets both local and international standards. This facility will add value to locally grown olives, improve product quality, and create new economic opportunities.
Secure Additional Land
To support the continued growth of the project, we aim to acquire additional land for olive cultivation. Expanding our plantations will increase production capacity and ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.
Support Rural Communities
The project is committed to improving the lives of rural families by reinvesting profits into community development initiatives. Our goal is to provide farmers with irrigation systems, clean water, farming equipment, and technical support that help improve agricultural productivity and quality of life.
Create Employment Opportunities
The Lalibela Olive Tree Project seeks to create sustainable jobs for local people, particularly young people, women, and smallholder farmers. By expanding cultivation, nursery operations, and olive oil production, the project will generate new employment and strengthen the local economy.
Promote Sustainable Agriculture
We are dedicated to encouraging environmentally responsible farming practices that protect natural resources while improving agricultural productivity. Through training, research, and innovation, we promote methods that conserve soil, use water efficiently, and support long-term sustainability.
Protect the Environment
Olive trees play an important role in restoring degraded landscapes and reducing the impacts of climate change. Our objective is to increase green cover, improve soil quality, reduce erosion, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to a healthier environment for future generations.
Produce High-Quality Ethiopian Olive Oil
Our goal is to produce premium olive oil from locally grown olives using modern processing techniques. By maintaining high production standards, we aim to supply healthy, natural olive oil to consumers in Ethiopia while expanding into international export markets.
Generate Foreign Exchange for Ethiopia
By exporting premium Ethiopian olive oil, the project aims to generate valuable foreign exchange earnings that contribute to the country’s economic growth. International sales will also help promote Ethiopia as an emerging producer of high-quality olive products.
Reinvest for Long-Term Development
Every success of the project is designed to benefit the wider community. Income generated from olive oil production will be reinvested into expanding olive cultivation, improving rural infrastructure, supporting farmers, and strengthening community development programmes.
Build Strong Partnerships
Achieving our vision requires collaboration. We aim to work closely with government institutions, embassies, NGOs, universities, research centres, private investors, and international development partners who share our commitment to sustainable agriculture and rural development.
Our Commitment
The Lalibela Olive Tree Project is more than an agricultural initiative—it is a long-term investment in people, communities, and the environment. Through sustainable olive cultivation and responsible development, we are creating opportunities that will benefit Ethiopia for generations to come.
