Investing in a Sustainable Future for Ethiopia
The Lalibela Olive Tree Project is seeking financial and technical support to expand its olive cultivation programme, establish a modern olive oil production facility, and strengthen rural communities in the Lalibela region of Ethiopia.
Since 2012, our association has successfully cultivated 3,000 olive trees that now produce fruit annually. This achievement demonstrates the project’s viability and provides a strong foundation for future expansion. With additional support, we can scale up our activities, create more employment opportunities, and generate lasting environmental and economic benefits.
Every contribution made to the project is an investment in sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, rural development, and Ethiopia’s future.
Why We Need Support
To realise the next phase of the project, we require financial assistance to expand our infrastructure, increase olive production, and establish a complete olive oil value chain.
Your support will enable us to:
- Expand our olive tree nursery.
- Secure additional land for new plantations.
- Build a modern olive oil processing facility.
- Purchase agricultural machinery and equipment.
- Install irrigation and clean water systems.
- Train farmers and local technicians.
- Create employment opportunities for rural communities.
- Increase olive oil production for local and international markets.
Funding Priorities
Nursery Expansion
Expanding the nursery will allow us to produce thousands of additional olive seedlings each year. Healthy seedlings are essential for increasing olive cultivation and supporting farmers throughout the region.
Land Acquisition and Plantation Development
Additional land is needed to establish larger olive plantations and demonstration farms. Expanding cultivated areas will increase production capacity and create more opportunities for local farmers.
Olive Oil Processing Facility
We plan to construct and equip a modern processing facility capable of producing premium-quality extra virgin olive oil.
The facility will require:
- Olive presses and extraction equipment.
- Crushing and milling machinery.
- Filtration systems.
- Storage tanks.
- Bottling and packaging equipment.
- Quality control facilities.
Local processing will increase product value while creating skilled employment and supporting Ethiopia’s growing olive industry.
Irrigation and Water Infrastructure
Reliable water access is essential for sustainable agriculture.
Financial support will help us install:
- Irrigation systems.
- Water pumps.
- Water storage facilities.
- Water pipelines.
- Distribution systems.
These investments will benefit both the olive plantations and neighbouring rural communities by improving access to clean water.
Agricultural Equipment
The project requires modern farming equipment to improve efficiency and productivity.
Equipment includes:
- Irrigation materials.
- Water pipes.
- Farming tools.
- Digging equipment.
- Transport vehicles.
- Nursery materials.
- Harvesting equipment.
These resources will help farmers manage plantations effectively and increase production.
Training and Capacity Building
Financial support will enable us to provide practical training for farmers, technicians, women, and young people.
Training programmes include:
- Olive cultivation.
- Nursery management.
- Orchard maintenance.
- Irrigation techniques.
- Olive harvesting.
- Olive oil processing.
- Business management.
- Sustainable agriculture.
Building local knowledge ensures the long-term success of the project.
Long-Term Impact
Supporting the Lalibela Olive Tree Project will contribute to:
- Sustainable rural development.
- Job creation for approximately 80 local people.
- Increased agricultural productivity.
- Improved access to irrigation and clean water.
- Environmental restoration.
- Climate change mitigation.
- Production of premium Ethiopian olive oil.
- Increased foreign exchange earnings through exports.
The benefits of the project extend far beyond agriculture, creating lasting improvements for communities and the environment.
